Around 1940, he painted representational watercolors of street scenes and run-down buildings. After 1960, he painted oils in a more abstract style. His works often depict Chicago and Los Angeles street scenes.
Biography: Oscar Van Young (1906-1991) was born in Vienna and studied art in Russia before immigrating to the United States in the 1920s. He lived and worked in Chicago, where he began to exhibit his works, before settling in Los Angeles around 1940. He was active in Los Angeles until his death in 1991.
