Artist Bio: PHILLIP J. SAVAGE (1948–1995)
A fiercely talented and deeply complex artist, Phillip J. Savage was born in Nebraska and raised in Sacramento, California. Gifted with a genius-level IQ and a natural talent for visual expression, Phillip showed early artistic promise and earned multiple academic scholarships. However, his path was profoundly shaped by the onset of schizophrenia in his late teens.
Throughout his adult life, Phillip battled the challenges of mental illness, often retreating into art as both refuge and revelation. From 1980 to 1995, under the quiet care of his father, he produced his most intense and compelling works—portraits of emotion, inner torment, and startling insight. His pieces, often marked by haunting eyes and chaotic beauty, offer a raw window into a mind at war with itself.
Though Phillip’s life was tragically cut short, his work endures—unfiltered, undiluted, and entirely original. This collection, lovingly preserved by his family, is being made available to the public for the first time.
